Install Joomla, How To Install Joomla

Joomla is one of the most popularly used Content Management System that offers several features to help build a website. If you are planning to create a dynamic and powerful website, Joomla has the tools that can help make all your plans happen. What’s more, it is an open source program so it is totally free.

Pre-requisites

Before using Joomla, a quick check should be done to make sure your web host meets the requirements of the program. Your hosting provider should be able to support PHP and MySQL. A MySQL database should be created prior to installing Joomla.

Joomla can be downloaded from this site. Make sure to choose the one with filename Joomla_1.x.x-Stable-Full_Package. As of this writing, the latest stable Joomla version is 1.0.13. The next step is to extract the files on to your computer since the downloaded file is compressed. All of the extracted files should then be uploaded to the public_html folder of your website so you can install Joomla for your own domain. Another way is to upload the downloaded compressed file to your server and extract it from there.

Once all the above steps are done, you are now ready to install Joomla!

Installation

1.      To start, enter the URL of the Joomla index page which is (yourdomain)/index.php, where (yourdomain) is the domain where you uploaded the Joomla files. The site should show something like the pages below.

In cases when the actual settings are different from the recommended settings, you may choose to check your hosting provider’s settings or you may also just choose to ignore them. You should, however, allow access or permission to the listed directories and files. Once permissions are set, click Next on top of the window.

2.      The GNU/GPL License page will come up. Click Next.

3.      Enter your MySQL database information. Enter your hostname, your username and password for your MySQL database, and the name of your database. All of which can be retrieved from your hosting provider. There is no need to change the last field and the checkboxes.

4.      Enter your site name.

5.      Enter your domain name and the path to the domain on the server. The email address you enter here will be used by the Joomla program to contact you regarding updates on your site. The password should be something that you will easily remember.

6.      Congratulations! Joomla is now installed. The login details for the administrator are shown in the next screen.

7.      To finalize the installation, delete the “installation” directory from the location where you extracted all the Joomla files earlier. You will now be able to access your Joomla-powered site through (yourdomain)/index.php.
