Joomla is most powerful and content management system and the web application framework. Joomla has been used by the thousands of people to manage their online contents.   Joomla allow the people to build customized websites and web applications with very little or no experience of PHP.  Some of the main features of Joomla include Multiuser and Multi level environment, WYSIWYG editor, customized templates and the installation of additional components and modules.

Joomla websites can be used to manage the telephone directory, forum boards, images, videos, News, Financial statistics, sports, games, calendars, e-commerce search and indexing by using the components and modules. Installing a new component in Joomla is very easy it does not require any special skills.  In this tutorial, you will learn that how to install a new component in Joomla.   The procedure of installing all the components is same.

Step One:  Open http://extensions.joomla.org/ and select or search your desired component.
In our example we will install and configure a photo gallery component “Phoca Gallery with Slideshow”

Step Two: Go to the Joomla Admin Panel > Click Extensions from the top menu and select Install/Uninstall.

Step Three:  Click browse and select the “Phoca Gallery with Slideshow” component from your hard disk.  The component should be in the zip form.  After you select the component, click “Upload File and Install”. 

After the component is successfully installed you see the “Component Install Success” screen.

Step Four:  To configure your newly installed component, click Components from the top menu and select “Phoco Gallery”.

You can make categories, put images, set size and make other required settings.  If you need more information on how to configure the components please check the documentations come with component or visit their website.

By installing the additional components you can make Joomla a robust, customized and flexible application.
