How to rewrite the URLs in Joomla

Joomla is an open source, dynamic content management system that facilitates the users to manage their online contents. Joomla is ideal for managing different types of the web contents including web directory, auction systems, e-commerce websites, jobs portal, news portal, classified ads system and entertainment websites.
Managing the contents in Joomla is very easy but because of the dynamic nature of Joomla websites, the dynamic URLs of Joomla are need to be converted into static URLs to make them user friendly and search engine friendly. The URL rewriting provides the way to make the search engine friendly URLs.
There are basically two types of the URL static and dynamic. The static URLs are better than the dynamic URLs because they rank better in the search engines and they are friendlier to the end users. The dynamic URL is an address of a dynamic web page and it is created when a script search for a database. The search engine index the contents of the dynamic URLs are bit slower so they are not ideal.
Joomla offers some components to convert the dynamic URLs into static URLs. Rewriting the URLS in Joomla is very simple and straightforward. No technical knowledge of skills is required for URL rewriting in Joomla.

Step1: Logon to your Joomla admin panel and click “Global Configurations”.
Step2: In the Global Configuration Click site and go to the “SEO Settings”.
Step3: Select “Yes” in the search engine friendly URLs in Use Apache Mod_rewrites.
There is a warning sing in the Use Apache mod_rewrite, which says that rename .htaccess.txt to .htaccess before activating.
Download the .htacces.txt file to your computer > open notepad > select .htaccess.txt file and open it.
In the file name type .htaccess, in the files of type select “All Files” and in the encoding there is selected “ANSI” by default.
After you successfully renamed the .htaccess.txt to .htaccess and uploaded it your apache web server, your Joomla website’s URL will become the static and look like as following.
